Screw refrigeration chillers, commonly known as screw chillers, are core equipment for industrial and large-scale commercial refrigeration. They fall into the category of positive displacement rotary compression refrigeration equipment. 1. Core Working Principle

The core operating component of a screw chiller is a pair of meshing male and female screw rotors inside the casing. The motor drives the male rotor to rotate and further drives the female rotor to run in reverse synchronously. The periodic volume change of the closed space formed by rotor tooth grooves and the casing continuously completes three core refrigeration processes: air suction, compression and exhaust. Without the intermittent movement of piston equipment, the unit operates stably without pulsation.
1. Suction Stage: As the rotors rotate, the volume of the tooth grooves expands gradually to form negative pressure, which continuously draws low-temperature and low-pressure refrigerant vapor into the closed tooth groove space.
2. Compression Stage: With the continuous meshing and rotation of the rotors, the closed volume of the tooth grooves keeps shrinking, squeezing the internal refrigerant. The pressure and temperature rise rapidly, realizing the adiabatic compression process.
3. Exhaust Stage: The compressed high-temperature and high-pressure refrigerant vapor is pushed to the exhaust port by rotor rotation and discharged out of the unit into the condenser to complete a single compression cycle. The repeated cycles continuously provide cooling capacity.

2. Core Structural Components

A complete screw refrigeration chiller features a sophisticated structure, and its core components determine the equipment performance and service life, mainly including:
1. Screw Rotors and Main Unit Casing: The core part of the equipment. High-precision male and female screws are matched with precise gap control, which determines the compression efficiency of the unit.
2. Capacity Regulation Slide Valve: A key intelligent component that flexibly adjusts the refrigeration capacity (usually 10%–100% stepless adjustment) according to ambient temperature and load demand, avoiding no-load energy waste and greatly reducing power consumption.
3. Oil System: Consisting of a lubricating oil pump, oil separator and oil filter, it plays a vital role in rotor lubrication, gap sealing, temperature reduction and noise reduction, ensuring the stable operation of the screw chiller.
4. Heat Exchange System: Composed of condensers and evaporators, it undertakes the heat dissipation and liquefaction as well as heat absorption and refrigeration of refrigerant.
5. Electric Control System: An intelligent control panel that realizes full-automatic control including unit start-stop, temperature regulation, fault alarm and overload protection.

4. Main Application Scenarios

Screw chillers are dedicated to medium and large cooling capacity and long-term continuous refrigeration scenarios, serving as the first choice for commercial and industrial refrigeration. Their typical applications include large high and low-temperature cold storage rooms, central air conditioning systems for shopping malls and hotels, factory workshop process cooling, food cold chain processing, chemical equipment temperature control, and biomedical constant temperature systems. Scroll units are generally used for small-scale scenarios, while screw chillers are preferred for heavy-duty working conditions.

5. Basic Maintenance Guidelines

The service life and energy efficiency of screw chillers highly depend on daily maintenance. Basic but crucial maintenance work includes regularly replacing lubricating oil and oil filter elements, cleaning dust and dirt on condensers and evaporators, checking unit pressure and temperature parameters, troubleshooting pipeline sealing conditions, and calibrating the electric control system regularly. Standardized maintenance can effectively avoid faults such as overheating, overpressure and cooling loss, and greatly extend the service life of the equipment.
